On March 15, 2025, First Communion students from St. Charles and St. Mary’s participated in a special retreat as they prepare to receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. The retreat provided a meaningful opportunity for the children to deepen their faith through prayer, learning, and reflection.
Throughout the day, students engaged in hands-on activities, explored the beauty of the Eucharist, and took time for quiet moments of prayer. It was a joyful and spiritually enriching experience, helping them grow in their understanding of God’s love and the significance of receiving their First Holy Communion.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated catechists, volunteers, and families who helped make this retreat a success. Your guidance and support continue to inspire these young disciples on their journey of faith.
Please continue to keep our First Communion students in your prayers as they prepare for this sacred milestone. May they always remain close to Jesus in the Eucharist!
As part of their Lenten service project, five of our Confirmation students recently volunteered their time to help clean the church — offering not only their energy but their faith in action.
Their thoughtful work helped prepare our worship space for the sacred season, and their joyful spirit of service truly reflected the meaning of Lent: prayer, sacrifice, and love for others.
We offer a heartfelt thank you to these young members of our parish for their dedication and example. Your care for our sacred space is a blessing to our parish community, and we are so proud of each of you!
Let us continue to keep all our Confirmation candidates in prayer as they prepare to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
The Goretti Project offers a family-centered approach to safe environment education, emphasizing parents' role as primary educators in teaching children about healthy physical and digital boundaries. Parishes and schools support parents by providing resources that encourage family conversations and stronger relationships. Current resources include the Empowering God’s Children program by Virtus, Protect Young Eyes, Be Tech Ready, and content from Theology of the Body.
The Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation across the diocese and the US are a two year process.
The curriculum for each grade focuses on 6 subjects: Creed, Sacraments, Moral Development, Prayer, Saints, and Scripture. All grades use doctrine from the Catechism of the Catholic Church plus vocabulary in order to teach these 6 subjects. This Religious Education curriculum is used for the whole diocese of Kalamazoo in parish CCD programs and the Catholic Schools and was last updated in 2014. Find a pdf of the full curriculum here.
For Religious Ed as of this 2018, the diocese of Kalamazoo has put out a new compact Parish Curriculum
